Which job would you use it for most?
A drink spill beside the sofa and a carpeted room need different working positions. With a portable cleaner, you guide a hand tool over each patch. An upright lets you work across the floor from its handle. That difference matters when kneeling, reaching or moving the machine between floors is the hard part.
BISSELL separates portable spot cleaning from whole-room upright cleaning. Treat that as a format guide. It does not establish which machine removes a particular stain better.

What the larger format adds

The tank doubles; cleaning performance does not follow from that. The upright's larger listed tank can hold more solution per fill. How far it goes still depends on the prescribed mix and how much you apply. Compare your carrying route as carefully as capacity: neither listed machine weight should be treated as its ready-to-clean load.
Can an upright replace a spot cleaner?
It can cover some of the same jobs when it has the right hose and tool. The 1548F page lists a 3-inch stain tool. A tool being included does not make the main body convenient on a stair landing or beside a parked car. Check the route from outlet to machine, then from machine to fabric, allowing space to keep the body stable.
For a detachable alternative, BISSELL's 1565 Lift-Off separates into an upright and a portable spot-cleaning unit. That design is worth investigating if both jobs repeat. Check the current model's manual, loaded carrying weight and included accessories before choosing it.
Count the cleanup as part of ownership
Budget for the approved cleaning formula and somewhere for rinsed tanks and tools to dry. BISSELL warns that formula intended for the wrong machine type can create excessive foam and resoiling. Follow the exact machine and bottle instructions instead of assuming every carpet-cleaning solution is interchangeable.
Carpet and furniture care instructions also control whether wet cleaning is appropriate. If you already own a spot cleaner but it leaves too much water, check the weak-suction diagnostic before replacing it with a larger machine.
