Keep the desk you like—or move the whole setup

A converter is worth considering when you like your current desk and want a standing position without replacing it. A full standing desk makes more sense when the entire work surface needs to move: keyboard, mouse, screens and the things you reach for all day.

The most useful check comes before the standing-height measurement. Sit at the existing desk with your usual chair and keyboard. If that position already feels too high, adding another platform may make the seated setup worse. A converter's lowest keyboard position matters just as much as its maximum lift.

A converter for a desk that already fits

The 36-inch VIVO DESK-V000V uses a separate keyboard tray and a manual lift. Its model table lists a 36 × 22-inch top platform and a 25 × 10.5-inch keyboard tray. Check those two spaces against the equipment you actually use.

Its desktop platform rises 6.5–17 inches above the supporting desk. That is not the keyboard-tray height. Use the setup manual to check how the two levels sit together. The manufacturer's styled photo includes monitors and accessories that are not supplied with the converter.

Best fit: you can keep a suitable existing desk and fit your essential equipment onto the two platforms. The catch: you still need room for the base, the moving platform and comfortable mouse movement.

A full desk for a larger moving workspace

The FlexiSpot E7 is a motorized full-desk example. Its US page lists the E7 frame's range as 22.8–48.4 inches without a desktop. Add the selected top thickness when checking your finished working height; keep E7 and E7 Pro configurations separate.

Moving the whole top gives papers and controls the same moving surface as the screens. That can be useful for a larger setup, especially when a converter would leave equipment spread across two working heights.

The catch: compare a complete desk or a frame plus compatible top. A frame price alone does not include every part of the finished workstation.

Compare height without mixing two different measurements

MeasurementWhat it means for your setup

Screen heightCheck independently from keyboard height

Neither range proves that a setup will fit your body, chair or screens. A quick check of the lowest seated position can prevent buying a desk that only works well while standing.

Finish the setup around your screens

If you already use a monitor arm, check the mounting edge, weight limits and clearance through the full movement. Leave enough cable slack for the highest position without pulling a laptop or dock off the desk. Our monitor arm versus stand comparison helps separate screen adjustment from desk adjustment.

Choose the converter when the existing desk is worth keeping and both seated and standing positions fit. Choose the full desk when moving the whole work surface solves the larger problem. Price that complete setup before choosing the cheaper-looking starting point.
